EL ÉXITO: ESTRATEGIAS PARA JÓVENES
El éxito: Estrategias para jóvenes (Success: Strategies for Young People) was written by Magen Rodriguez, a certified language teacher who, after plenty of searching, learned that there are few Spanish texts geared towards skill-building and learning strategies. This book seeks to be student-friendly and to provide useful information for students to not only read but to apply to their own learning!
ZOOMING TOWARD EQUITY:Â TIPS FOR BUILDING RESPONSIVE COMMUNITIES
A blog post featured by the Mastery Collaborative, a community of schools aims to be youth-centered, culturally responsive-sustaining, and mastery-based. One year into blended and remote online learning, Magen offers some lessons learned and her own ideas for creating a sense of community online.
"STAND WITH MALALA"
Working at an Expeditionary Learning school, every other Thursday is dedicated to venturing out into the community and completing fieldwork. As the language teacher at her school, Magen wanted to embed human rights education and global culture not only through academic content but also via our school culture. With Donors Choose, she raised $2,842 to bring the initiation to life for all of the middle school students at Brooklyn Collaborative.
TECH SAVVY SPANISH LANGUAGE LAB
As students walk into Magen's classroom, they enter the Language Lab. Students master and lead daily Spanish sound drills with unique rhythms & beats they create. Although lively and cultural, her students have not learned how language and culture are global and accessible through technology. With Donors Choose, she raised $2,255 to make it happen!
INTERVIEWED BY SCENARIOS USA
Magen was the Youth Leadership & Engagement Coordinator at Scenarios USA. She was featured in a short interview in 2016 with Scenarios USA, a non-profit organization that uses writing, filmmaking, and the arts to foster youth leadership, advocacy, and self-expression in under-served teens. Scenarios USA believes that by valuing youth and listening to their opinions, we can have an impact on promoting healthy relationships, confidence, and self-expression among young people.
